In 1901, the Luxembourg Museum in Paris ordered the five most famous artists, among whom was Pasternak, to paint one painting from Russian life. Pasternak wrote the famous pastel “Tolstoy with his family” in the evening light. Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, seeing it at the exhibition “World of Art”, decided to purchase it for the Museum of Alexander III (now the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg). Continue reading
ROKOTOV – GEYNSBORO: “THE POETS OF THE HUMAN FACE”
Thomas Gainsborough was ten years older than Rokotov. He was born in 1727 in the charming corner of East Anglia, Sudbury in Suffolk. Tom was the ninth child in the family of a cloth merchant, the genus of which belonged to the native inhabitants of the town. From her mother, who wrote flowers pretty well, Tom inherited a talent for drawing. During his school years, the boy ran into the picturesque surroundings of the town to capture the magnificent green of the meadows, the quiet bend of the river, the lonely trees. It is noteworthy that Gainsborough himself considered himself a landscape painter. At thirteen, he moved to London, where he first found himself in a silversmith’s workshop. Funny facts about the paintings of famous artists
Picture “Boat” upside down – A memorable event happened in December 1961. It overwhelmed the Museum of Modern Art, located in New York.
And all that was interesting was that the masterpiece of Matisse under the usual name “Boat” was finally hanged in the correct position, although earlier it was upside down. The funny thing is that this is not the last interesting event, which is associated with paintings of famous people
